Meet the Artist
Who I Am
Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a calligrapher and watercolor artist, originally from Texas and now based in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Art has always been part of my life. I started taking summer art classes when I was four, entered every coloring contest I could find as a kid, and signed up for any art class offered at school. I kept drawing while earning my BA in sociology at McNeese State University, then went on to study graphic design at the Art Institute of Houston.
In 2017, I took my first calligraphy classes at a small art shop in Athens, GA. And in early 2020, I picked up watercolor just before the world shut down for the pandemic. (Pretty sure I borrowed every book the library had on watercolor when the in-person classes I was taking were canceled.)
Today, calligraphy and watercolor (and the combination of the two) are my focus. I’m a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and IAMPETH (The International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting). My watercolor work has been shown in Florida, Georgia, and online through FWS exhibitions. In 2020, I received the People’s Choice award at the OCAF Members’ Exhibition in Watkinsville, GA.
Who I Am
Hi, I’m Sarah.
I’m a calligrapher and watercolor artist, originally from Texas and now based in West Palm Beach, Florida.

I often want and need more details, more context—just more clarity in general. Lack of clarity and miscommunication creates anxiety for a lot of people.
And since vague instructions or missing information can quickly derail a project, I try to address that by providing the things I usually want: all the information up front, clearly stated, and easy to access.
There are so many different ways of thinking, learning, processing. And whether I’m teaching, working on a commission, or designing event signage, I want the experience to feel clear and doable—not overwhelming or confusing. This shouldn’t be the part that’s hard or stressful.
So if there’s ever a problem with accessibility, please let me know directly using the chat bubble or by emailing me. And if something needs to be explained further—or if you just have questions—please reach out.
What matters to me
Clarity. Accessibility. Making sure people don’t feel like they have to read between the lines just to understand what’s going on.
I love projects that tell a story through small details or find the beauty in everyday objects and moments.
What I do
I offer event calligraphy, watercolor and calligraphy commissions, original watercolor art, and on-site calligraphy for events of all kinds.
I like to focus on the small details that make each project and story feel unique, and I love projects that tells a story through those details or finds the beauty in everyday objects and moments.
Calligraphy, watercolor, and digital design each play a different role in that.
There’s a lot that has to happen before the final piece can even be started.
There’s testing and experimenting with ink and paper combinations. Figuring out the best layout for a piece. And problem-solving, there’s a lot of problem-solving—either because something just isn’t working the way I want, or because I created the problem by being too specific in the first place. (This happens more than it probably should.)
I’ve pulled out every blue paint and ink I own to try and match a school color for a commissioned piece. I’ve designed table number signs where I painted koi and their shadows separately so I could layer them digitally without losing the delicacy of the color. I’ve painted house portraits when the reference photos showed the house as it is today, but the goal was for it to look like the person remembered it looking nearly 60 years ago, so I had to rely on their memories and descriptions for a lot of it. I’ve spent entire afternoons making color charts just because they’re pretty (and, bonus: it’s also a good way to get to know your pigments).
But this is the part I love. The researching, the planning, the frustration of things not working—and the satisfaction of figuring it out.
